Life is a mix of highs and lows.

There will be times when everything goes right, and other times when nothing seems to go your way. How you approach defeat can set you up for a rebound into success.

Dealing with defeat requires you to understand control. Even if everything is executed perfectly on your end, some things will always be outside your control.

Your focus must remain on what you can control. Giving power to circumstances outside of your control takes away your power. In doing so, you allow external influences to control your emotions and actions.

Speaking on emotions, it's normal and healthy to experience them. If you made it to the final job interview but weren't selected for the job, it's normal to feel frustrated and a bit down.

Instead of bottling up negative emotions, grant yourself permission to work through them. Take a long walk, go for a run, talk about the situation with someone you trust.

Finding a positive outlet to release emotion and stress is vitally important. It clears your head and prevents you from making emotionally charged decisions.

Returning to the situation with a clear head, your next steps are to assess what happened and create a plan to move forward.

If the interview didn't go your way, what (within your control) could be improved for the next interview? Each scenario, good or bad, presents an opportunity to improve.
